“Shane was absolutely so easy to work with and all of the caregivers we had were the best. They were very encouraging and gave me a peace of mind so I could work.”

From the first call to the first shift

  1. You phone us and describe what changed: a fall, a discharge, nights that are no longer safe, or a spouse who is worn out.
  2. We recruit and screen experienced private caregivers, then present the ones whose experience and availability fit the hours you have in mind.
  3. You interview them, in person or by phone or video, and you pick the person your family trusts.
  4. The caregiver works directly for you, on the hours and routine you set. We help coordinate getting started and the weekly billing.

No pressure and no obligation. Often the same day. Call as soon as a discharge date is set — even the same morning.

Who does what

Hallmark facilitates. You decide.

  • Hallmark: answers your call, recruits and screens caregivers, presents candidates, introduces you, and helps coordinate the start and the weekly billing. We cover our placements with liability insurance and occupational accident insurance. Our fee is separately stated.
  • Your family: interviews, chooses and engages the caregiver directly, and sets the hours, the tasks and the routine. Day-to-day care is directed by you, with your nurse or care manager if you have one. Hallmark does not assess your loved one or write a plan of care.

The caregivers we refer work directly for you, not us. For the longer comparison with how many agencies operate, read Private caregiver or agency?.

Why Louisville families go private

  • More experienced caregivers. People who have done this work for years, presented with their background so you can judge for yourself.
  • Higher continuity of care. One familiar face across the week, instead of a rotating cast your parent has to keep re-meeting.
  • More comprehensive care. Caregivers work to their level of competency. Tell us what the situation requires and we will present candidates qualified for it.

Neighborhoods we cover in Jefferson County

Hospitals are named only as places families come home from. Hallmark Homecare is a referral agency and is not affiliated with any hospital or health system.

East End & St. Matthews

St. Matthews is about 9 minutes and 4 miles from our office, and it mails as Louisville 40207. Census estimates put 3,245 of its 17,577 residents at 65 or older, 18.5%. Two inpatient hospitals share that ZIP: Baptist Health Louisville at 4000 Kresge Way (490 beds) and Norton Women's & Children's Hospital at 4001 Dutchmans Lane. Down the same lane, UofL Health – Medical Center East runs an emergency room "in St. Matthews, immediately adjacent to the Watterson Expressway/I-264," in UofL Health's words. It is an ER and outpatient campus, not an inpatient hospital, and a visit there can end with your parent going home the same night with new instructions. That is a good time to call.

The wider East End takes in the ZIPs 40222, 40223, 40241, 40242, 40243, 40245, 40291 and 40299. Two public spots families here use: Eastern Area Community Ministries at 9104 Westport Road (40242) and the Watson-Powell Community Center (YMCA) at 1340 Heafer Road (40223), both on the state's list of senior centers and nutrition sites.

Middletown & Anchorage

Middletown is the nearest stretch of the county to us, roughly 7 minutes and 4 miles from Corporate Campus Drive. City Hall stands at 11803 Old Shelbyville Road, and Middletown addresses mail as Louisville 40243 or 40245. The city's older population is large: 2,180 of 9,763 residents, 22.3%, are 65 or older. The nearest inpatient rehab hospital is Baptist Health Rehabilitation Hospital at 11800 Bluegrass Parkway (40 rehab beds), a place families come home from after a stroke, a joint replacement or a long hospital stay. Anchorage sits within the same East End service area, and families there call the same number.

Jeffersontown

Jeffersontown, J-town to most of Louisville, is about 12 minutes and 6 miles from our office and mails as Louisville 40299. Its 65-and-older share is 21.9% (6,398 of 29,199 residents). The city runs the Jeffersontown Senior Center at 10631 Watterson Trail, in a building the city dates to 1911 in historic Jeffersontown. Metro East, a senior nutrition site at 9212 Taylorsville Road, is nearby, and the city's signature event is the Gaslight Festival. If your mother's week is built around the senior center, tell us when you call; you set the routine, and we present caregivers whose availability fits it.

Prospect

Prospect (40059) has the highest 65-and-older share of any community on our location pages: the Census estimate is 1,384 of 4,542 residents aged 65 and older, 30.5%, though for a city this small the margin of error is wide. It sits along U.S. 42 near Harrods Creek, about 18 minutes and 10 miles from our office. The closest hospitals are in 40241: Norton Brownsboro Hospital at 4960 Norton Healthcare Boulevard (197 beds) and UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Hospital–Brownsboro at 5000 Chamberlain Lane (40 rehab beds). For Goshen, Crestwood and La Grange, see our Oldham County page.

Downtown and the rest of the county

Families anywhere in Jefferson County can call. Downtown's medical center includes Norton Hospital (200 E. Chestnut Street), UofL Health – Jewish Hospital (200 Abraham Flexner Way) and UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Institute next door (135 rehab beds). The full metro list, with what the first nights home tend to involve, is on Hospital to home.

Facility names, addresses and bed counts were read from the Kentucky hospital directory (CHFS/OIG, September 2026 edition) in October 2026.

Questions families ask

Louisville questions, answered

My father went to the Medical Center East ER after a fall and went home the same night. Is that reason enough to call?

Yes. An ER visit that ends at home can leave a family with new instructions and no one at home to help. Call and tell us what happened; we present experienced caregivers, and you decide whether you want help for a few nights or longer.

Mom is being discharged from Baptist Health Louisville on Kresge Way. Can a caregiver be there when she comes home?

Often the same day. Call as soon as a discharge date is set — even the same morning. You interview the candidates we present and choose the one who will meet her at the door.

Does it matter where in Jefferson County we live?

We cover the whole county. Our office is in the East End, so Middletown, St. Matthews and J-town are closest, and downtown is about 22 minutes away. Call and we will tell you honestly, and quickly, if the hours you need are hard to cover where you are.

Can long-term care insurance pay for care at home?

Often, yes. Many long-term care policies reimburse care from a caregiver you engage through Hallmark. We take care of the provider side — the provider forms your carrier asks us for, and the paid invoices you submit; understanding your own policy and working with your carrier stay with you. Call us to get started.
