Live-in care in Louisville, KY: what it is, and when 24-hour care fits better.
Live-in care means one caregiver who lives in your loved one’s home for days at a time — there for the mornings, the evenings and the night, with time to sleep and time off arranged between your family and the caregiver. It suits a person who needs someone present and a hand through the day, but not someone awake through the night. Hallmark Homecare is a referral agency. We recruit, screen and present experienced private caregivers; you meet them, choose one, and the caregiver works directly for you, on the schedule you set.
A real person answers — days, nights and weekends.

“When my father needed in-home care in Georgetown, Indiana, Hallmark Homecare was there for us. He started out needing overnight coverage, and Shane quickly shared experienced caregivers for us to choose from. They were kind and capable, and they gave our family peace of mind through the night.”
The question that decides which arrangement you need.
24 hour care vs live in care — what is the difference?
Live-in care is one caregiver who lives in the home, sleeps there and is on duty for the waking hours you agree; 24-hour care is a small team of caregivers on rotating shifts — usually 12 hours — so someone is awake and on duty every hour. Choose live-in when your loved one sleeps through the night and needs a steady presence by day; choose 24-hour care when someone must be awake overnight, or when the care is too much for one person. A small team of caregivers on shifts covers 24-hour care.
Live-in care and 24-hour care, side by side.
A steady presence, and nights are quiet
Your loved one needs company, meals, help getting around and someone in the house — and generally sleeps through the night. One familiar face, day after day.
Someone must be awake at night
Wandering, frequent waking, falls at night, or care that is physically demanding around the clock. A small team, each caregiver rested, and someone on duty every hour. 24/7 & overnight care →
Between your family and the caregiver
Because the caregiver works for you, the on-duty hours, the sleeping arrangement, meals and time off are agreed between you and the caregiver before the first day. We help you think it through, present caregivers open to a live-in arrangement, and relay what each side needs.
Why live-in families rarely change caregivers
A caregiver you chose, who is paid properly and answerable to you, is far more likely to stay — and in a live-in arrangement that continuity is the whole point.
Three things change when the caregiver works for you.
More experienced caregivers
Because more of what you pay reaches the caregiver, private arrangements attract seasoned professionals — people who have done this work for years and chose to keep doing it on their own terms. We present candidates with their background and experience; you interview and decide.
Higher continuity of care
The same caregiver, day after day. A caregiver who is paid properly, chosen by you and answerable to you is far more likely to stay — so your loved one is not meeting a new face every week. And a caregiver who knows your loved one becomes your eyes and ears when you cannot be there — quick to notice a change and to keep you informed.
More comprehensive care
The caregivers we refer work to their own level of competency. Many can support medication reminders and other everyday health tasks under the direction of your care manager or nurse, and when a situation calls for a licensed nurse, we can present one.
Hallmark facilitates. You decide.
Hallmark
We answer the phone — a real person, days, nights and weekends — recruit and screen experienced caregivers, present candidates whose experience and availability fit the hours you need, and help coordinate getting started, weekly billing and year-end tax forms.
Your family
You interview and choose the caregiver, and engage them directly — the caregiver works for you, not us. You set the hours, the tasks and the routine, and direct the day-to-day care, with your nurse or care manager if you have one. We do not assess your loved one or write a plan of care.
Live-in care, answered.
What does a live-in caregiver need from the home?
A private place to sleep and time to rest. What the day looks like — the hours the caregiver is on duty, when they sleep, how time off is arranged — is agreed between your family and the caregiver before the first day. We help you think it through and relay what each side needs.
Is a live-in caregiver awake at night?
Usually not — that is the difference between live-in care and overnight or 24-hour care. If your loved one needs someone awake through the night, an overnight caregiver or a small 24-hour team is the better fit, and we will say so.
Can we start with live-in care and change later?
Yes. Families move between live-in, overnight and 24-hour arrangements as needs change. You set the schedule and can change it; we present caregivers for whatever the next arrangement is.
Can long-term care insurance help pay for live-in care?
Often, yes. Many long-term care policies reimburse care from a caregiver you engage through Hallmark. We take care of the provider side — the provider forms your carrier asks us for, and the paid invoices you submit; understanding your own policy and working with your carrier stay with you.
