24-hour and overnight care

24-hour and overnight care at home in Louisville, KY.

Around-the-clock help does not have to mean a parade of strangers. Because you engage caregivers directly, continuous care can be covered by a small, steady team — often as few as four experienced caregivers. Hallmark Homecare is a referral agency: we present the candidates, you choose, and the caregivers work for you.

“My elderly mother, who lives alone and has Parkinson’s, fell. I called Shane and he jumped into action, working some sort of magic to line up 24/7 home care starting the next morning. The caregivers were talented, caring, hard-working individuals who went over and above.”

Why families choose us for the clock

Continuous care, the fewest possible faces.

A small, steady team

Longer 12-hour shifts mean fewer caregivers cover more of the week — so your loved one sees the same handful of familiar people, not a larger changing group.

Experienced caregivers, chosen by you

We present seasoned caregivers with their background and experience; you interview and choose who covers your days and nights. They work for you, not us — and a familiar caregiver notices changes overnight and keeps you informed.

Help when the call can’t wait

A real person answers days, nights and weekends. Families reaching us after a discharge or a fall have had experienced caregivers in place the same day.

The math families don’t expect

Around the clock, with as few as four caregivers.

A day has two 12-hour shifts. Two caregivers on days and two on nights can cover a whole week between them — which is why continuous care through Hallmark so often means a small, familiar team instead of a crowd.

Because you engage caregivers directly, and they can work longer shifts — usually 12 hours, occasionally longer — a small, steady team can cover even overnight or around-the-clock care. Many families cover a full week with as few as four caregivers — two on 12-hour days and two on nights. It depends on availability and is not something we can promise, but far fewer faces is exactly what the model is built for.

What it covers

Overnight, or every hour of the day.

Through the night

Overnight care

  • An awake caregiver keeping watch, or a caregiver present who rests but is there if needed — you decide.
  • Help to and from the bathroom, repositioning, and a steady hand for a loved one who is unsteady after dark.
  • An extra set of eyes overnight — a familiar caregiver notices a change and lets you know.
  • So the family caregiver — often a spouse — can finally sleep.
Every hour

24-hour care

  • Continuous coverage in shifts, with someone alert and ready at every hour.
  • The first fragile nights and days after a hospital or rehab discharge.
  • A small, steady team as needs increase — the same faces, not a rotation.
  • Coverage that scales up or down as your loved one’s needs change.
Who does what

Hallmark facilitates. Your family decides.

What we do

Hallmark

We recruit and screen experienced caregivers, present candidates whose experience and availability fit the hours you need, answer the phone — a real person, days, nights and weekends — and help coordinate getting started, scheduling tools, weekly billing and year-end tax forms.

What you do

Your family

You interview and choose the caregivers, build the coverage schedule, and direct the day-to-day care — with your nurse or care manager, who own the plan of care. The caregivers work for you, not us, and you decide whether to continue at any time, for any reason. We do not assess your loved one or write the plan of care.

Questions families ask

24-hour and overnight care, answered.

How many caregivers does around-the-clock care take?

It depends on the hours and the situation, and it isn’t something we can promise — but because you engage caregivers directly for longer shifts, continuous care can often be covered by a small team. Many families cover a full week of 24-hour care with as few as four caregivers — two on 12-hour day shifts and two on nights (some families arrange even longer shifts). That means far fewer faces, and much higher continuity, than a larger rotating group. When more coverage or backup is needed, the team is a little larger.

What’s the difference between 24-hour care and live-in care?

With 24-hour care, awake caregivers cover the day and night in shifts, so someone is alert and ready at every hour. Live-in care usually means one caregiver who stays in the home and sleeps overnight. Which one fits depends on how much help is needed after dark — we’ll talk it through and present experienced caregivers for either.

Is overnight care awake, or asleep?

Either — you decide. Some families want an awake caregiver keeping watch through the night; others want a caregiver present who rests but is there if needed. You set which, and choose a caregiver comfortable with it.

Can you help the same day we call?

Often, yes. A real person answers days, nights and weekends, and families reaching us after a hospital discharge or a fall have had experienced caregivers in place the same day. Call and tell us what’s happening.

Can long-term care insurance pay for 24-hour care?

Often, yes. Hallmark Homecare is an Approved Provider with John Hancock for long-term care insurance, and many other long-term care policies reimburse care from a caregiver you engage through Hallmark. We take care of the provider side — our approved-provider status, the provider forms your carrier asks us for, and the paid invoices you submit; understanding your own policy and working with your carrier stay with you.
