How much does in-home care cost in Louisville? There is no one number. Here is how it is set.
There is not one number, because each caregiver names their own rate and you agree to it — and because the hours, the nights and the level of help are yours to set. What we can tell you is exactly how the rate is set, where the money goes, and how to have your own figure by the end of one phone call. Hallmark Homecare is a referral agency. We recruit, screen and present experienced private caregivers; you meet them, choose one, and the caregiver works directly for you, on the schedule you set.
A real person answers — days, nights and weekends.
The caregiver names the rate. You agree to it. You pay one number.
The caregiver’s rate
Each caregiver we present names their own hourly rate for your situation, and you agree to it — or ask us to relay a counteroffer. Hallmark does not set what a caregiver earns.
One hourly rate, nothing more
You are quoted one hourly rate on the phone, and it includes our fee. You pay that rate and nothing more. Our fee is stated separately in the agreement, so you can see where every dollar goes.
Where the money goes
Families pay comparable to agency rates — and far more of it reaches the caregiver, because our overhead is a fraction of an agency’s. That is how experienced caregivers can afford to stay with one family: higher continuity of care.
Four things that decide what your family will pay.
How many, and which ones
A standing schedule of several shifts a week costs less than around-the-clock coverage, and the shape of the day matters: daytime hours, evenings, or the overnight.
Awake overnight, or resting but present
A caregiver who stays awake through the night is a different arrangement from one who sleeps in the home and is there if needed; you and the caregiver agree which one you need. 24-hour & overnight → · Live-in care →
Companionship, personal care, or more
What the day requires — company and meals, hands-on personal care, dementia experience, or everyday health tasks under a nurse’s direction — is part of what a caregiver weighs when naming a rate.
A small, steady team
For 24-hour care the number is simply hours multiplied by the rate you agree with each caregiver. Because caregivers can work 12-hour shifts, a small team — sometimes as few as four — can cover the full week, with fewer faces. 24/7 and overnight care →
Cost, answered plainly.
How much does home care cost per hour?
It depends on the caregiver you choose and what your situation requires, because each caregiver names their own rate and you agree to it. You are quoted one hourly rate on the phone, it includes our fee, and you pay nothing more. Call and describe the situation — the hours, the nights, the level of help — and you will have your own figure in one conversation.
How much does 24 hour home care cost?
Hours multiplied by the rate you agree with each caregiver — there is no separate 24-hour price. Because caregivers can work 12-hour shifts, a small team — sometimes as few as four caregivers — can cover the full week, and you decide how many hours and nights you need.
How do I pay for in-home care?
Most families pay privately, billed each Tuesday for the previous Monday through Sunday through a secure third-party billing platform. Many long-term care insurance policies reimburse care from a caregiver engaged through Hallmark, and trustees, guardians and families using a trust pay the same way, with itemized weekly statements for their records.
How do I pay a private caregiver?
Through the billing platform, not in cash and not under the table. You pay one weekly invoice; the platform pays the caregiver the rate you agreed and issues the caregiver’s year-end 1099, so you have nothing to file for the caregiver at tax time.
Does Medicare pay for in-home care?
Medicare’s own rule is that it does not pay for custodial or personal care — help with bathing, dressing or using the bathroom — when that is the only care needed, and it does not pay for 24-hour-a-day care at home. What Medicare covers is home health: skilled nursing and therapy ordered by a physician for a limited period. Families use private pay, long-term care insurance or a trust for a private caregiver. “We needed assistance quickly… He introduced the caregivers to us and connected us by text. Each and every one of the caregivers was excellent, very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. Thankfully we only needed a few days… Overall a wonderful experience!”

We answer the phone — a real person, days, nights and weekends — recruit and screen experienced caregivers, present candidates whose experience and availability fit the hours you need, and help coordinate getting started, weekly billing and year-end tax forms.
Your family
You interview and choose the caregiver, and engage them directly — the caregiver works for you, not us. You set the hours, the tasks and the routine, and direct the day-to-day care, with your nurse or care manager if you have one. We do not assess your loved one or write a plan of care.
Paying for care, answered.
Is our fee added on top of the caregiver’s rate?
No. You are quoted one hourly rate on the phone, and it includes our fee — you pay that rate and nothing more. Our fee is stated separately in the agreement you sign, so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Is there a deposit, and do I get it back?
For some arrangements a deposit is held through the billing platform and returned at the end of service. We explain it before you sign anything.
Do I have to commit to a minimum number of hours or weeks?
You set the schedule, and you can end service at any time and for any reason. We ask only for as much notice as you can give, as a courtesy to the caregiver.
Can long-term care insurance pay for in-home care?
Often, yes. Many long-term care policies reimburse care from a caregiver you engage through Hallmark. We take care of the provider side — the provider forms your carrier asks us for, and the paid invoices you submit; understanding your own policy and working with your carrier stay with you.
