Where things stand

Approved with John Hancock — and many other policies pay, too.

Approved Provider with John Hancock

Hallmark Homecare is an Approved Provider with John Hancock for long-term care insurance — so for a John Hancock policy, whether it will reimburse care from a caregiver you engage through Hallmark is already settled.

Louisville families reimbursed today

Families here are being reimbursed under their John Hancock long-term care policies for care from a caregiver they engage through Hallmark.

Many other policies reimburse, too

Many other long-term care policies reimburse care from a caregiver you engage through Hallmark. John Hancock is the one that has formally approved us as a provider; for other carriers, check with yours to see what it will do.

How it works

How a long-term care policy pays for a private caregiver.

Every policy is different, but the path is the same — and one thing never changes: you pay, and your carrier reimburses you.

1

Check your policy

Find your long-term care insurance policy and its benefits summary, and confirm with your carrier what it covers.

2

Tell your carrier who your provider is

You let your carrier know that Hallmark is your provider. For John Hancock, that is the Contact Center at (800) 233-1449.

3

We complete the provider forms your carrier asks us for

When the carrier sends the forms that put Hallmark on record as your provider, we complete them. That is separate from your claim, which stays yours.

4

Care starts, and you pay weekly

You choose and engage the caregiver directly, and you are billed weekly through a secure third-party billing platform — the same as any other family.

5

The paid invoices your carrier needs are produced for you

Each week, the billing platform produces the paid invoice your carrier needs, in the format it asks for.

6

You submit them, and your carrier reimburses you

You send the invoices to your carrier, and your carrier reimburses you under your policy.

You pay the weekly bill. Your carrier reimburses you.

What your policy decides

Your carrier — not Hallmark — decides what it pays.

What the policy sets

Four things to check

  • The elimination period — the days of care before benefits begin.
  • The daily or monthly benefit — the most the policy will pay.
  • The benefit triggers — often needing help with a number of everyday activities, or cognitive decline.
  • Whether a licensed or certified caregiver is required — a small number of policies ask for one.
What stays between you and your carrier

Your policy is yours to work

We are not insurance advisors. We do not read or interpret your policy, call your carrier, or answer questions about your coverage for you — that part stays between you and your carrier, and it can take some back-and-forth. You do not have to do it alone, though: if you want a hand understanding your policy, we can point you to resources for help.

Who does what

Hallmark handles the provider side. The policy stays yours.

What we take care of

Hallmark

  • Tell you whether we are already an approved provider for your carrier — for John Hancock, we are.
  • Complete the provider forms the carrier asks us for.
  • Make sure the paid invoices your carrier needs are produced each week through the billing platform.
  • Point you to resources if you want help understanding your policy.
What stays with you

You

  • Choose and engage the caregiver, and set the schedule.
  • Talk with your carrier and understand your own policy.
  • Pay the weekly bill, submit the invoices to your carrier, and receive the reimbursement.
  • Hold the policy and the claim — we do not file it, and your carrier does not pay us.
Make the call count

Before you call your carrier.

Three questions to ask

Ask your carrier

  • Does my policy cover in-home care from a caregiver I engage directly — and do you require a licensed or certified caregiver?
  • What has to happen for benefits to begin — the elimination period, and any assessment, plan of care, or physician certification you require?
  • What is my daily or monthly benefit, and what do you need to see on each invoice?
Have these ready

What to have on hand

  • Your policy number and your benefits summary.
  • The status of any claim you have already started.
  • For a John Hancock policy: the John Hancock Contact Center, (800) 233-1449.
Questions families ask

Long-term care insurance, answered.

Does John Hancock pay Hallmark directly?

No. You pay the weekly bill, and John Hancock reimburses you under your policy. Benefits are not assigned to Hallmark, and your carrier does not pay us.

Do you file the claim for me?

No — the claim is yours. What we do is complete the provider forms your carrier asks us for, and make sure the paid invoices your carrier needs are produced each week through the secure third-party billing platform. You submit those to your carrier.

Can you read my policy, or talk to my carrier for me?

No. We are not insurance advisors, so we do not interpret your policy, call your carrier, or answer questions about your coverage for you — that part stays between you and your carrier, and it can take some back-and-forth. You do not have to do it alone, though: if you want a hand understanding your policy, we can point you to resources for help.

Does my policy have to be with John Hancock?

No. John Hancock is the carrier that has formally approved Hallmark as a provider, and Louisville families are being reimbursed under their John Hancock policies today. Many other long-term care policies also reimburse care from a caregiver you engage through Hallmark — check with your carrier to see what yours will do.

My policy says it requires a licensed caregiver — can you help?

Often, yes. Only a small number of policies require it, but when a policy calls for a licensed nurse — or a provider with a specific certification, such as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) — we can present a caregiver qualified for it. The caregivers we refer work to their own level of competency.

Are individual caregivers approved by John Hancock?

John Hancock approves Hallmark as the provider — not individual caregivers. Once your policy recognizes Hallmark as your provider, you choose the caregiver you engage directly.
