Personal care at home

Help with bathing, dressing and getting around, at home in Louisville — from a caregiver you choose.

Personal care is the hands-on help of daily living: bathing, dressing, using the bathroom, getting from the bed to the chair and safely through the house. It is the help most parents least want to ask for, and the help that most often decides whether they can stay home. Hallmark Homecare is a referral agency. We recruit, screen and present experienced private caregivers; you meet them, choose one, and the caregiver works directly for you, on the schedule you set.

A real person answers — days, nights and weekends.

What personal care includes

The everyday tasks, done with dignity.

  • Bathing and showering, safely, at the time your parent prefers
  • Dressing, grooming, oral care and skin care
  • Toileting and incontinence care, handled matter-of-factly
  • Transfers — bed to chair, chair to car — and help with a walker or wheelchair
  • Mobility through the house and fall prevention
  • Meals, hydration and medication reminders on time
Why the same caregiver matters most here

Familiarity is dignity

No one wants a different stranger helping them bathe each week. Because you engage the caregiver directly, the same person returns — someone your parent chose, who knows how they like things done. And a caregiver who sees your parent every day notices the skin change, the new unsteadiness, the meal not eaten, and tells you.

Where personal care fits

From two hours a morning to around the clock.

Beyond the basics

Care to their own level of competency

The caregivers we refer work to their own experience and competency. Many can support medication reminders and other everyday health tasks under the direction of your care manager or nurse, and when the situation calls for a licensed nurse, we can present one.

The shape of the day

Mornings, evenings, or all day

Many families start with the two hardest hours — getting up and going to bed — and add a midday visit or overnight coverage as needs change. You set the schedule. 24-hour & overnight →

With memory loss

Personal care with dementia

Bathing and dressing can be the hardest moments of the day with dementia. Caregivers experienced with memory loss keep those moments calm — the same face, the same order of things. Dementia care at home →

Why families choose a private caregiver

Three things change when the caregiver works for you.

More experienced caregivers

Because more of what you pay reaches the caregiver, private arrangements attract seasoned professionals — people who have done this work for years and chose to keep doing it on their own terms. We present candidates with their background and experience; you interview and decide.

Higher continuity of care

The same caregiver, day after day. A caregiver who is paid properly, chosen by you and answerable to you is far more likely to stay — so your loved one is not meeting a new face every week. And a caregiver who knows your loved one becomes your eyes and ears when you cannot be there — quick to notice a change and to keep you informed.

More comprehensive care

The caregivers we refer work to their own level of competency. Many can support medication reminders and other everyday health tasks under the direction of your care manager or nurse, and when a situation calls for a licensed nurse, we can present one.

Who does what

Hallmark facilitates. You decide.

What we do

Hallmark

We answer the phone — a real person, days, nights and weekends — recruit and screen experienced caregivers, present candidates whose experience and availability fit the hours you need, and help coordinate getting started, weekly billing and year-end tax forms.

What you do

Your family

You interview and choose the caregiver, and engage them directly — the caregiver works for you, not us. You set the hours, the tasks and the routine, and direct the day-to-day care, with your nurse or care manager if you have one. We do not assess your loved one or write a plan of care.

Questions families ask

Personal care at home, answered.

My mother is embarrassed about needing help bathing. How do caregivers handle that?

With the same caregiver every time, chosen by your mother. Dignity in personal care comes from familiarity and routine — a person she knows, who does things the way she likes them, at the time she prefers. You interview the candidates we present and she chooses; that choice matters more here than anywhere.

Can a caregiver help with transfers — bed to chair, in and out of the car?

Yes. Many of the caregivers we refer are experienced with safe transfers, walkers and wheelchairs, and with the fall-prevention habits that keep a parent safe. Tell us what the situation requires and we present candidates whose experience fits.

Is personal care the same as home health?

No. Personal care is non-medical help with daily living from a caregiver your family engages. Home health is skilled nursing and therapy ordered by a physician. Many families use both. Home health vs home care →

Can long-term care insurance pay for personal care at home?

Often, yes. Many long-term care policies reimburse care from a caregiver you engage through Hallmark. We take care of the provider side — the provider forms your carrier asks us for, and the paid invoices you submit; understanding your own policy and working with your carrier stay with you.
